After a Washington Irving
High School reunion in
1999, Roleta Smith Meredith (WI 1959) decided she would just write a little
letter each month and include some things from classmates. She diligently
worked on the newsletter and gathered news, poems, and wrote a couple of pages.
She inserted some graphics and emailed the results to all of her classmates for
whom she had an email address.
One of Roleta's old high
school friends, Judy Daugherty Kimler (WI 1959), replied and said something
about enjoying what was written. Roleta then wrote to Judy to ask her how she
had enjoyed the little blue flowers she had put in the newsletter in honor of
WI. Judy explained that, because Roleta was using AOL graphics, the only
readers who could see the pictures of flowers were those who also used AOL —
the rest only received dots or dashes. Roleta was very disappointed. But Judy
soon wrote and told Roleta that if she ever wanted to write another newsletter
that Judy and her husband had a website, and they had some space where
they could put the newsletter.
So, in September, 1999,
Roleta wrote another newsletter and sent it as a download document to Judy.
Then Judy asked if it would be okay to put in some pictures and add a little
color to the newsletter. Working together, the two gals created a newsletter that continued publishing until 2019 (twenty years) — never missing a single month.
Judy retired in 2015, and
Roleta began publishing on this site.
